Acupuncture For Weight Loss
Wondering if Acupuncture can TRULY help you manage your weight? Read on…
Cooler autumn is just around the corner, new seasons are an opportunity to assess our states of health and realign with our natural rhythms.
From an acupuncture perspective, fall is about refinement. It is time to pare down, to let go of the excesses we allowed ourselves in summer and focus on what’s necessary for winter.
In autumn, because the weather is getting slightly colder, people will eat more food to store energy and transport fat to combat the cold in winter, so if we don’t control our diet and weight in autumn, we will gain weight quickly and weight loss will be more difficult.
Results were obtained by implementing a protocolized body acupuncture point prescription without a diet or exercise program. In a five-week clinical trial patients receiving acupuncture achieved a 2.9 kg mean weight loss and the decrease in mean BNI (BODY MASS INDEX) WAS 1.43. The laboratory findings, including serum levels of insulin, leptin, ghrelin, and cholecystokinin are consistent with the results. The controlled study documents that sham acupuncture does not produce significant positive patient outcomes, only true acupuncture achieves clinical results. Based on the evidence, the researchers conclude the acupuncture treatment regulates weight for patients with obesity.
Obesity is an increasingly prevalent chronic condition that is associated with serious morbidity and mortality. The risk of hypertension, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, cerebrovascular disease, gallbladder disease, and some types of cancer are higher for overweight and obese individuals. Weight control treatment include diet therapy, behavioral treatment, pharmacotherapy, surgical procedures and acupuncture. The downside to anti-obesity medications and surgery is the potential for iatrogenic illness.
In addition, a World Health Organization report on acupuncture states that acupuncture demonstrates a therapeutic effect for the treatment of obesity.
Our recommended course of treatment.
The most effective course of treatment in acupuncture weight control is two or three times a week, the needling is administered every 3-5 days, with 30 days being one ‘complete’ course.
The initial consultation lasts 60 mins and the follow-up session last 45 mins. During the whole acupuncture process, rapid needle insertion is performed. Twisting, lifting, and manipulating acupuncture techniques are applied to elicit Deqi (which is your energy flowing). After the arrival of deqi, the needle retention time was 20 mins.
Nevertheless, everything must have perseverance and not overeating and drinking too much. Try to stay hydrated, reframe mentality and make a list of your priorities. As we all know, nothing is more important than health.
