RMT, BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Clinical Sports & Remedial Massage Therapy (Oxford, UK).
I achieved my latest qualification (BTEC level 5 advanced diploma) at the Oxford School of Sports Massage, which is recognised as the highest qualification in the UK and accredited by the Sports Massage Association. After qualifying, I ran my own home-based clinic in Warwickshire England, and in April 2017 I moved to New Zealand to extend my knowledge and experience to a new level.
In 2015, I sold my house and quit my engineering job in the UK to learn massage therapy and also I squeezed in some travelling periodically, which caused me to escape creature comforts and begin a fresh outlook on life. What motivated my transition into my new career was due to a chronic back injury caused from repetitive motion in martial arts that I suffered on and off for almost 10 years. Some days it was so severe I was unable to walk or even get out of bed. Having experienced the benefits of massage therapy and how quick the results took effect, my curiosity got the best of me.
In the clinic, every day is a new day involving new exciting challenges and obstacles to apprehend with clients, which helps me grow as a person. I am also experienced in mobile, pitch side, pre and post event massage therapy and sports or kinesiotaping. To accentuate my passion in my line of work, I offer voluntary work to local sports teams and donations to fundraising for charity services.
In my treatments, I like to focus in soft tissue manipulation, muscle energy techniques, myofascial release, positional release techniques, neuromuscular techniques, body mechanics, rehabilitation, remedial exercises and stretches for injury prevention and therapeutic purposes.
My greatest area of interest in my work is to understand and respect every client I treat as individuals. We all possess unique physical, physiological and psychological characteristics, and therefore it is essential that the treatment be tailored to accommodate each client’s requirements. I like to consider myself as a ‘musculoskeletal detective’ as it is my aim to problem-solve the client’s reason for visiting, by recovering a restored and balanced body.
For a more goal focused massage where we aim to treat a particular sporting concern or injury or to provide appropriate levels of care during the various stages of injury rehabilitation this type of Massage is for you.
